How recovery works at Flynn.
A sense of community and fellowship — built on a basis of faith and trust — that encourages a man to gain his self-respect by earning his own living. Residents are required to attend Alcoholics Anonymous and/or Narcotics Anonymous meetings, are encouraged to attend the church of their choice, look for work, and pay a minimal fee for room and board once they are able. Immediate dismissal is the consequence of drinking, drug use, or bringing such items into the home.

A common room, a dining room set for meals, computers for the job search, a yard out back. Where the work of recovery gets done.
What Flynn is
A fellowship home, not a treatment program.
A non-denominational fellowship home for men in recovery.
A 12-step, abstinence-based fellowship.
A residential community in two houses in Wilson, NC.
Resident-paid — $100 a week when you are working.
A United Way Agency since 1969.
What Flynn isn't
Not a rehab. Not a clinic.
No medical staff, no detox, no clinical therapy.
Not for residents currently on Medication-Assisted Treatment (Suboxone, methadone, naltrexone).
Not court-mandated — come of your own volition.
Not billed to insurance.
Requirements
What we ask of residents.
Residents must be 18 or older. We ask that he be willing to:
- Stop using alcohol and/or drugs.
- Possess or acquire two forms of ID.
- Find employment within a reasonable time, and pay the $100 weekly boarding fee once working.
- Get and work with an AA/NA sponsor within three weeks.
- Work the 12 steps of AA/NA.
- Attend four meetings per week, one on Friday or Saturday night.
- Help with cleaning and household responsibilities.
- Volunteer locally until employed.
- No serious crimes on criminal background. No sex crimes.
We recognize that physical ability varies. The requirement is willingness — to try, to keep at it.
Length of stay
From a month to a year, or longer.
Indefinite. Men are encouraged to remain until they are sufficiently recovered to find a new home. Most residents stay an average of three months, but each man is different and the length of his stay depends on his own needs. Average lengths of stay: one month to one year, leading to a lifetime of recovery.
